How Fogelberg Consulting was born.
So many business owners struggle to get the specific advice they need, quickly, affordably, and when they most need it - so I’ve set out to change that.
Fogelberg Consulting was born in late 2019 after I left my role running one of New Zealand’s pre-eminent commercial finance brokerage firms to take a step back from the corporate world and seek greater balance in life. I’d set two of them up for their Australian parent company in 2012 and 2013, entirely responsible for the P&L at the ripe young age of 23. Within months each business became hugely successful but by the time I was 30, I was ready for something different.
When I exited, a few people asked me to work with them as a consultant on their business strategy, and demand for my work escalated during 2020 when the pandemic was at its peak in New Zealand. It became clear I wouldn’t be heading overseas for the next few years as planned, so I resolved to turn Fogelberg Consulting into something more.
By the end of 2020, my client portfolio was full and I started looking for an office space. February 2021 saw the launch of my online consulting group, April the launch of Intensive Strategy Workshops, and in July the announcement of FC’s new “Success Studio” at the Hampton Downs Motorsport Park - a place that’s become the start line for some incredible Kiwi businesses to think big, and achieve even bigger, and where those workshops are now held.
Online programs became the next step towards getting that business nous into the hands of people who really need it, at a more accessible price point than engaging a consultant one-on-one. The first of those, “Business Success Express” launched in January 2022, and it has proven popular with small business owners, new and existing alike, providing support for participants as they progress through the program.
My expertise lies in complex problem-solving, strategy and growth initiatives for core economic industries such as transport, construction, financial and professional services, manufacturing, medical, hospitality, and retail trade services (to name a few!), formed throughout that decade-long career. That said, my industry scope is not limited, and I place more importance on the values held by a company’s Director and leadership team.
My experience in business and own personal success means I’m able to go far beyond that typical “business coach” scope we seem to be seeing more and more of. Keeping clients accountable and tuning their personal mindset toward increasing performance is an important part of my work, but providing real perspectives and insights drawing on that actual operational experience across a vast number of industries, combined with my approach, is why people tend to choose Fogelberg Consulting. I’m known for pushing people hard, and helping them get out of their heads and into action.

A more personal note.
In addition to my consulting work I hold other business interests within the beverage and retail sectors, am a Member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors, and qualified Financial Advice Provider (FAP) in the specialist area of Investment (not licensed/active). I'm particularly passionate about good governance, horizontal diversification, digital innovation, and acquisition deal processes, as well as capital sourcing/negotiation. A few Board opportunities have been on the horizon of late, which I’m excited to explore.
I am autistic, which aside from giving me quite an advantage in business, means I revel in being absorbed in my other passions and hobbies! I’ve been playing the piano since I was 4, and am currently spending most of my spare time learning the pipe organ and writing orchestral music arrangements. One other personal project is “On Track with Lani Fogelberg”, a podcast which relaunched in 2023 from the FC Success Studio. It’s a place for me to share the experiences that have shaped me and helped contribute to my achievements, in response to the many questions I receive every week - especially from the next generation. I love doing what I can to help others improve how fulfilled they feel in life.
I’m still extremely driven myself, by the satisfaction I get from putting a smile on people’s faces and their own satisfaction they get from winning in business, and in life. I’m just a geek who decided to go for it and grab life by the horns, and very grateful for my ability to do the work I love. We’re only here once, after all.
